A Study about Relationship of Self-Care Behaviors and the Quality of Life of Hypertensives

Abstract
Hypertension is a typical chronic disease requiring adequate and continuous management. Many studies supported that self care was the essential factor to promote the duality of life and self efficacy increased healthy behavior.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the demographic characteristics, backgrounds related to disease and behaviors related to hypertension affecting interrelationship among the factors including health locus of control, self-efficacy, perceived benefits, barriers and quality of life.
66 subjects were interviewed from Dec. 1999 to Jan. 2000 and the data was analyzed by the SAS program with ANOVA. Pearson correlation to determine the variables affecting the quality of life.
The result were as follows;
1) Health locus of ronlrol(HLOC) was significant difference according to education(F=3.45, p=.013) and low salt diet( F=4.04, p=.017). Self efficacy was significant (Iiffennce according to smoking hahit(F=6.45, p=0.14) Perceived benefits and barriers were respectively more significant difference according to non-alcohol group(F=6.98, p=0.10) and low salt diet(F=7.65, p=.000). Quality of life was significant difference according to non admission group(F=5.89, p=.018), higy salt diet(F-4.23, p=.019) and alcohol habit(F=17.32, p=0.000).
2) There were significant positive correlation among the variables : HLOC and perceived benefits(r=4306, p=000), self-efficacy and perceived barriers(r=2612, p=034), sell efficacy and quality of life(r=2601, p=.035). And there were significant negative correlation among the variables : HLOC and self -efficacy(r=3830, p=002), HLOC and quality of life(r=5330, p=000), self-efficacy and perceived henefits(r=2834, p=035), perceived benefits and quality of life(r=6240, p=.000).
